Overview

Want to make the world a happier, more colorful place? Consider majoring in the interesting blend of art and science that is Landscape Horticulture, which is also a multi-billion dollar industry that involves the design, implementation, management, and conservation of urban and rural landscapes.

Landscape Horticulture includes a range of specialty areas like plant identification, landscape design, plant cultivation, and nursery and garden-center management. If you major in Landscape Horticulture, you'll learn more about trees, shrubs, vines, and every other kind of plant - their optimal growing conditions development, and relationships with other organisms - than pretty much anyone. You'll learn how to combine plants with brick, wood, stone, concrete, and other construction materials. You'll also be able to put your creative talents to work by designing eye-catching environments. And, by the way, you'll be doing a lot more than just dressing up the surroundings. The designs of landscape horticulturists and landscape architects help maintain temperature, reduce noise and glare, and provide increased security.

Upon graduation, you can set about the laudable task of making residences, businesses, roadways, parks, golf courses, and playgrounds prettier, healthier, and more usable.
