04. AcademicsScroll to Top  Scroll To Top Arrow

From the School

The Honors Program allows students in the top 10 percent of their class to select honors-level courses and have access to specialized courses developed specifically for the program. Students are involved in individual, group and faculty research projects.

The FirstGen Presidential Fellows Program is a prestigious leadership development program for first-year first generation students. The program features an array of offerings to help first-generation students develop academically, professionally and personally. Students selected for this program will receive a financial aid package that covers the full estimated cost of attendance.

Advanced Standing Programs:
Jumpstart your career with a combined degree program by taking graduate coursework during your undergraduate years — without sacrificing valuable learning opportunities like internships or study abroad. Bentley offers three options through this program: Advanced Standing in Finance is for Finance majors who will earn a BS and MS in Finance, an Advanced Standing in Business for students in any major who will earn a BS/BA and an MBA degree and an Advanced Standing in Business Analytics for studnets in any major who will earn a BS/BA and an MSBA degree.

What students say

Though Bentley University leads with its reputation as a business school, don't underestimate the breadth of its curriculum, which draws a comprehensive liberal arts element into its advanced business curriculum. The over 4,000 undergraduates who attend this Massachusetts school gain "excellent technical knowledge and skills and [can choose from a] variety of business disciplines." The strong business curriculum (finance and accounting "are Bentley's bread and butter") is "dominated by relevant coursework," and it shows in the placement rates: more than 97 percent of students are employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation. Some classes run in conjunction with each other, "enhancing what students learn and take away from those courses," and many feature supplemental presentations outside of class in which students gain insights from working professionals. There's an academic program for everyone interested in business, with "niches for any unique students" and "plenty of opportunities for students to get involved."

Classrooms and teaching techniques take advantage of advanced technology, and in recent years, Bentley has "focused on growing students' soft skills by incorporating multiple group projects." Professors work hard to teach their subjects well and ensure students understand the topics, and many instructors "[have] industry experience and in-depth education prior to arriving at Bentley." The "above and beyond" Career Services office "does a great job of prepping students for life ahead," and classes are "relevant and feature real learning." To wit: "Even the General Education subjects are designed to be applicable in the corporate world."

Concepts taught in the classroom are put to use in several high-tech learning laboratories.

Learning Lab for Economics, Accounting and Finance (LEAF) allows students to dig into fast-paced tutorials or industry software and access cutting-edge tools that are reshaping the accounting, economics and finance professions. Featuring software programs including ACL, Great Plains Learning Insights, Peachtree and TurboTax.

Bentley's financial Trading Room combines state-of-the-art technology and real-time data to offer first-hand exposure to the intricacies of risk management, asset valuation and portfolio construction. Students have access to 24 Bloomberg terminals and software such as Crystal Ball Pro, DataStream Advance, FactSet, Mergent Horizon, Morningstar Direct, S&P Compustat, SPSS and William O'Neil Direct Access.

The Center for Languages and International Collaboration (CLIC) is a key resource for language courses, international studies majors, and students with an interest in global issues. The center promotes collaboration among Bentley students and their counterparts overseas. The lab offers Rosetta Stone software in more than 25 languages, international broadcasts in six languages, live video conferencing and rooms for 1:1 conversation.

The Media and Culture Labs and Studio encourages students to put their creative skills to work in a production facility with the latest tools for media of all kinds: video, sound, digital photography and design. The User Experience Center (UXC) features labs ideal for usability testing. Students experiment with the latest technologies in user experience and usability research, evaluation and design. The Computer Information Systems (CIS) Sandbox is a social-learning space where students gather to collaborate on projects, work one-on-one with tutors, build mobile apps, create video games, and explore new technology trends and devices. Its resources include Google TVs, Xbox 360 with Kinect, study spaces, large-screen TVs, a smart board, specialized networking equipment, and tools such as Windows 8, Linux, and Android development software.

The Bentley Library is outfitted with computer workstations, group study rooms, and wireless network access. State-of-the-art online resources are complemented by a dynamic book collection housed in electronic compact shelving, and a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) collection management system allows for quick self-checkout capability.

Off-Campus Opportunities

Bentley's location in Waltham, Massachusetts—just minutes west of Boston—puts the city within easy reach. As the country's ultimate university town, Boston's options range from theater to art exhibits, dance clubs to concerts, and championship sports to world-class shopping. Our free shuttle makes regular trips to Harvard Square in Cambridge, just a subway ride from Boston. Boston also offers many opportunities for internships and jobs after graduation.

What students say:

Everyone at Bentley has "a strong focus on jobs, internships, and résumé building," so much of students' free time goes to interest-based extracurriculars, which consist of clubs and activities (such as the student-run Bentley Investment Group) that "offer students an opportunity to explore their interests [and] acquire new knowledge and skills." Still, "students are able to prioritize work, but when we are finished up we have some fun." Most students are "part of an organization, whether it be Greek life or a club." On the weekends, there are usually some parties, but "there is no pressure to go. They are fun but not a major part of life on campus." Fraternities are off-campus, and as such, "the frat-mosphere is not nearly as pronounced as the hyper-focus on where [you are] steering your career." "We hang out and discuss a lot of different ideas about business-related externalities.... It's the entire culture," says one student. The campus activities board "makes sure there are events throughout the week and weekends for people to attend that are school-sanctioned," and other fun activities around campus include attending Division I hockey games in the school's sports complex, as well as "events that [the Campus Activities Board] constantly promotes."

11. Career Services & JobsScroll to Top  Scroll To Top Arrow

What students say

“The school does a great job in prepping students for real-world applications,” says one Bentley attendee—and that’s a sentiment shared by many. Since these are “high performers who are driven,” it’s no wonder that graduates consistently find success on the job market. One of the school’s “greatest strengths … is its career development services” office, which “strives to go above and beyond” for undergrads—sixty percent of students credit it with their success after graduation. Indeed, it’s quite apparent that the staff “is determined to help find every student a job prior to graduation.” To do that, they offer “services ranging from résumé/cover-letter critique to preparation for an interview,” and have adapted these services and others into a hybrid recruiting model, accessible both in-person and online. By doing so, they are continually demonstrating “that the Bentley community cares and [will be] there every step of the way.” Best of all, the university’s “close connections and good reputation within the Big 4 [accounting firms] and other top companies in Boston set students up for success by increasing their chances of scoring a job.”

Your college education is a big investment. That's why we do everything possible to make it as affordable as possible for you and your family, and to provide the kind of return on investment you expect — and deserve.

The value of your education is one of our top priorities. We will work closely with you to identify every appropriate financial aid solution. In most cases, our financial aid program makes the cost of attending Bentley competitive with most private and public institutions — even with the in-state costs. Bentley's financial aid program includes both scholarships based on academic achievement, which are awarded through the admission process, as well as grants based on financial need. Bentley administered over $114 million in aid to undergraduate students last year. More than 80 percent of aid awarded comes from Bentley-funded grants and scholarships. Currently, more than 70 percent of undergraduates receive some type of financial assistance-either grants, scholarships, loans and/or work study. Our personalized approach to financial aid has resulted in Bentley graduates defaulting at a rate of less than one percent on their student loans, compared to the national average of 11 percent.

The lab features sound-proofed production studio with green screen capabilities and lighting grid, post-production software, including Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, After Effects and Flash.

The User Experience Center (UXC) features labs ideal for usability testing. Students experiment with the latest technologies in user experience and usability research, evaluation and design. Features include two usability labs with monitoring and recording equipment, SMI Vision eye-tracking technology, 25 networked workstations for large-scale testing and focus groups, and post-production video editing software.
